The time has come again for Kennedy’s yearly Powderpuff Game, a flag football contest held between Junior and Senior girls in November. During the game, a cheer team of Junior and Senior boys — in pink — will cheer on the girls. Sign ups for practices start October 24, and the first powderpuff meeting will be announced by Kennedy’s Associated Student Body (ASB).

Girls’ practice consists of running drills, team bonding, and practicing with the team ( junior or senior). The football teams will be led by volunteers from Kennedy’s football team.

Gisselle Flores, Kennedy Senior and past participant of Powerpuff, reflected on last year’s game.

“It was fun and a good experience. I enjoyed doing something outgoing with a couple of my friends. My favorite memory of last year’s event was the moment the Juniors won and we all ran to gather up in a circle after. Taking part in Powderpuff made me feel supportive of the school and good for doing something outgoing that I usually wouldn’t do.”

When asked if she would consider participating again, Flores was certain.

“Yes, I would take part in [Powderpuff] again and I do plan on joining again this year. I’d tell others [wanting to sign up for Powderpuff] that it’s fun to do and would encourage them to join.”

Boys’ practice consists of learning and practicing the halftime show routine, team bonding, and learning the cheers to keep our team and crowd spirited. The boys’ cheer team will be led by volunteers from Kennedy’s cheer team in the Dance room (subject to change).

Arjun Maharaj, Senior and past participant of Powderpuff’s cheer team, looked back at the 2021 game.

“Being part of this experience was fun. We did a lot and I was able to network and connect with different people. My favorite memory was doing the celebrations with the teams when they scored and how we did the rowboat.”

Maharaj said he “would consider participating again.

“I will take part in [Powderpuff] again this year. It would be a fun experience for high schoolers, and finding out about other people’s talents was amazing.”

Again, Powderpuff sign-ups will start Monday, October 24. Practice for teams will be after school starting Tuesday, November 1, from 3:30 – 5:00pm. The two teams will play and perform at the official Powderpuff game after school on Thursday, November 17, at Kennedy football field from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
