Before the game big game

On Friday, August 30, John F. Kennedy High School’s varsity football team won their first game in three years against the El Camino Eagles, and former Cougar coach, Brian “Coach B” Lewis. For the past three years, the Cougars football team has gone completely winless. With Coach B leaving Kennedy and Coach Dante Bush becoming his replacement, and one more winless season, the Cougars made “history” as some players are saying.

The beginning of the game

Students were skeptical about this game, wondering if the Cougars could pull off the win and break the losing streak. Early in the game, the Cougars got a lead in the game, the team and the crowd were ecstatic. Many people were eager to see if El Camino was going to score.

Throughout the game, the cougars played excellent defense and also played excellent offense. The Cougars continued to score all game, only letting El Camino score once. The Cougars were in control all game, and big plays were coming from both offense and defense.

After the big win

Late in the game, El Camino scored their first touchdown, but the Cougars still led with the win in their hands. The final score was 34-8.

“Excited to see the team coming together,” said Kennedy Principal Reginald Brown after the win.

Junior Termir Knox, varsity linebacker and team captain, said, “Great job from everybody on the field. Kennedy, you guys deserved this win.”

Many Cougars couldn’t believe that the varsity team won.

“It's pretty fun and I can’t believe the Cougars made a comeback,” said Kennedy junior Zoe Aclan.

“I’m surprised we won,” said Syr Allen, Kennedy senior.

How are the Cougars going to continue to win?

Can the Cougars continue this streak in their upcoming game against the Highlands Scots, on Friday, September 6? So far, Highlands are 1-0 in with their recent win against Foresthill with a score of 32-20.

Whatever happens, Cougars will have bi-week the following week leading up to the Big Cat Classic. The Kennedy students are excited to see what the Cougars can do and are ready for more wins this season.

You did an amazing job centering just how big this win was by telling us right from the opening sentence how long our drought has been. Keep up your good senses on news values, Amari!
