Tips for Underclassmen

For underclassmen trying to get into a four year college, here are some tips to help you become the ideal candidate!

#1: Take challenging classes

Majority of students try to pick classes that they think won’t be too hard, however many colleges want to see people who challenge themselves and step out of their comfort zones. Students who take the harder classes (such as AP classes or high level classes) stand out more and have a better chance of getting accepted.

#2: Get involved

Colleges like to see people who were engaged in school outside of their regular classes. Join a club, do sports, become part of ASB, and show up to school events. Doing things outside of school such as community service and volunteer work are exceptional as well. Going the extra mile shows colleges that you care about more than just your grades.

#3 Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA

Having at least a 3.0 GPA opens up opportunities to many various scholarships, grants, and colleges.

Good luck on your applications Cougars!
